How to get rid of Stretch Marks During Pregnancy

Research studies show that about 90 per cent of women get reddish or pink, a bit indented, occasionally fretful streaks on the abdomen, breasts and/or hips during pregnancy. Stretch marks during pregnancy generally appear in the dermis or in the middle layer of the skin. These marks occur mainly during middle to late pregnancy due to continued or abrupt stretching beyond elasticity of the skin those results in the scar tissue. However, the mothers-to-be who have got very healthy skin tone by virtue of heredity or maintains the same through the years of proper nutrition and exercise may not experience stretch marks during pregnancies. Let us consider following tips that can help those mothers-to-be to prevent the stretch marks.

Your Diet

One of the major factors responsible for stretch marks is inadequate nutrition. Therefore it is necessary that your diet consists of good amount of the nutrients required for maintaining of healthy skin. You should therefore eat an abundance of zinc-rich foods including nuts and fish. You should also take milk, carrots, and citrus fruits that are excellent source of vitamins A, C, and D. This apart, 2 to 3 servings of foods that are rich in protein like eggs should be taken. Drink sufficient water if you want to help keep your skin supple to avoid stretch marks during pregnancy then the best way is to drink plenty of water. In addition to this benefit, your baby’s health will also remain in a good shape for your taking sufficient water. Make sure that you don’t take Caffeine because it may lead to increased risk of getting stretch marks. However, in case you take caffeine related drinks including tea or coffee, then ensure that your water consumption fits or surpass your caffeine drink ingestion.

Natural remedies

There are various natural remedies to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy. Natural remedies are also very useful for treating heartburn during pregnancy. The basic of natural remedies is that it should ensure your skin remain moisturized all along. Such remedies help in maintaining the elasticity of your skin. For this you may use home made preparations or go for over-the-counter products. But it is always better to use home made preparations. It should also be ensured that you use the natural applications before the stretch marks begin to appear. You need to do some spot tests of the applications as some persons get allergic to certain natural ingredients. Let us discuss some natural remedies.

Use of Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter: Application of cocoa butter in your abdominal area will help you in not developing a single stretch mark on your tummy. You can find the cocoa butter in bar or cream form at your nearby drug store. This butter smells like cocoa and the odor is very light. Similarly, Shea butter is extracted from a nut tree that is grown in some part in Africa. The butter is creamy and yellow in color that is found within the nuts. This butter is also available in the form of lotion, cream, and salve. Shea butter can also be used for healing burns and also as an anti-aging cream.

 Use of Turmeric: Turmeric is a spice that is popularly used in the form of paste in your tummy area. For this you need to apply the paste and allow it to remain for at least for 10 – 15 minutes. You need to continue to apply this all through the pregnancy period. This herbal product is available in plenty at your nearby grocery store. Apart from preventing stretch marks, turmeric is also popularly used for various other purposes including medicinal and food preparation purposes. Above tips on how to remove stretch marks during pregnancy will certainly serve as a guide to enable you to have a stretch mark free tummy that would boost your beauty and confidence.

Making a thin paste of  turmeric with coconut oil / olive oil and applying it over the lower abdomen is also an effective way to get rid of stretch mark during pregnancy.

      I do not recommend any medicine during pregnancy. If the pregnant mother eats a good amount of wide variety of fruits, vegetables (and non veg if she is accustomed to), takes a good care to be mentally active and leads physically positive lifestyle, that is more than good for her. I do not recommend chyawanprash during pregnancy. However, other Ayurvedic doctors may have different stand on this issue.

    hi Dr.. am 29 years old female.. got 2 yrs old baby.. I would like to know if there is any remedy for stretch marks post delivery… its been 2 yrs now… I didn’t take any precaution for it during pregnancy… also pls let me know if there s any solution to tighten those loose sagging abdomen muscles as a result of pregnancy… thanks in advance..

    Sir i am 9th month pregnant and is suffering from itchy rashes all over my body, doc said its PUPPP..cant bear the itching 🙁
    Plz help me….is ther anything i can do abt it…i am using coconut oil to moisturise but doesnt help

      Hi, take sesame oil – 100 ml, mix 10 grams of turmeric powder to it. Apply it gently, allover the body, 10 minutes before bath.
