i think it is extremely difficult to understand the tridosha system. I find my body gives out all the doshas and nothing is more pronounced to give a categorical classification. Which means it is difficult to understand my body type- what will suit me and what wont/

The same is the case with me!
Self analysis of Tridosha always leads to confusion.
Dosha body type symptoms mix with the dosha dominant symptoms, during disease condition.
Dosha body type symptoms mix with times when Dosha are naturally high. For example, kapha is naturally high in the body during morning hours, and in childhood.
Dosha body type symptoms mix with impact of place. moist place – kahpa is high. sunny – Pitta etc.

here are a few tps –
      1. watch your emotions –
do you take decisions very fast?or take them with intellgence, or you think you take a very long time?

      2. watch your digestion. – take a long time for digestion – kapha, appropriate digestion – Pitta, sometimes constipation and sometimes lose stools – Vata.

      3. Watch your overall built.

So these are a few hints about judging body types.

Even after all these, if you still think that you are having Tridosha body type, then you are very lucky.! Because it is the ideal body type. 🙂

Great work, can we understand tridoshas as physical entities or as philosophical nonentity as per modern science ?

Many have tried to correlate physical entities to Tridosha. Such as – Bile – to Pitta, Neuro-hormones to Vata and Normal phlegm to Kapha etc.
But Tridosha concept is so vastly spread all across the body that many a times, such a correlation becomes futile. Hence, I would opine that it is best to understand Ayurveda and Tridosha in its own – as-it-is way.

I do not think Tridosha concept is a philosophical entity. I would say that it is practical entity. If you have know about functions and places of of Vata, Pitta and Kapha, you can practically feel them in action in your body.

      Hope your question is answered.

My Ayurvedic doctor told me its not easy to understand the doshas in your body…different people have different variations according to the place they live. For ex. a person living in the Middle East vs a person living in colder climates will experience different symptoms though they might be having same doshas. It’s good to consult an expert rather than trying to do it yourself.

    Namaste Doc,

Even though it sounds pleasant and easy saying tridosha but it rules whole body and also Ayurveda is totally revolving around tridoshas 😉

I am 68 years age veg male. Mine is Adhya Nadi at birth time which is astrologically connected with Vaat. I suffer from Arthritis also since about 12 years. Does it mean that I am born with this Vaat Dosha? It is said that Vaat and this body leave only together!!!

Dear sir, everybody will have certain amount of Vata in them. Vata is responsible for many actions like heart beat, respiration etc. But if Vata is increased, then it causes arthritis etc.
In a Vata body type person, usually Vata is slightly higher, by birth and is more prone to Vata disorders than others.

    Dear Sir,
Kindly guide why every food has different -2 properties like we don’t eat radiish in the night because it will cause cold and cough (means increasing kapha ) and on the other in pitta dominance it is said to avoid radish(means increasing pitta also). same with curd , orange

Radish is hot in nature, it does not cause cold or cough. (Reference – Bhava Prakasha). Sweet curd and orange in some worsen cough and cold in some susceptible people, hence told to avoid at night.

    Dear sir ,
There is saying that our body type depicts the type of dosha one have….like a thin person having vata dosha and fatty one said to be kapha dosha…and also I heard that there is prakurti of everyone…in these 3 doshas ..one cannot able to change his/her prakurti like a thin person cannot become a fatty one ..i think its the disorder caused during the pregnancy about the food intake of pregnant woman.and its emotional and mental status ..so my question is whether a thin person can be able to become fatty? if so please help me in this regard ..wishing for your positive reply…
